Bridging The Gaps


We often go under or over them, and the only time they appear in a newspaper, magazine, or even on a TV/Radio programme is when one has collapsed/been hit by a lorry/prevented an upgrade of track/electrification.

As I said in my original intro to this item,

“One of the most obvious aspects of building railways is that it is impossible to achieve a perfectly level and unbroken alignment with no obstructions between point A and point B.

….. not all obstructions are natural ones. Some may have resulted from the obstinacy of a landowner to allow access for the railway, through, or over, his properly.”
