This is so sad, if true. In the USA, there are so many iconic routes, and after the passenger services have been discontinued, freight could be next.

Removing any federal funding from the rail network will be a disaster for transportation as a whole. In the US, and perhaps against all our pre-conceived notions of the USA as nothing more than a gas-guzzling user of automobiles, successive administrations at federal and state level have supported the industry.
There have been some innovative developments too, and in the UK, the trains that we use for freight haulage rely on the American builders – will it affect manufacturing industry too??
