The University of Huddersfield partnered with Siemens have delivered a fascinating new condition monitoring tool, with an innovative sensor developed in the university, and named “Tracksure” looks set to be a winner.
A new sensor developed by researchers from the University of Huddersfield can be fitted to new and existing rail vehicles, to detect vibration under the track as the vehicle passes over it, and enables the detection of voids. The data is then simply transferred back to a maintenance operations centre using standard GSM-R communications.
Brilliant, maximising the use of technology.
It was introduced and described by Farouk Balouchi from the university at the recent Railway Condition Monitoring conference in Birmingham organised by the IET.
