Two days ago Alstom announced they had been granted planning permission from Halton Borough Council for a 30 acre (just over 12 hectares) site to build a brand new, state of the art Technology Centre in Widnes. This latest in a series of planning applications at HBC Fields is planned to support Alstom’s increased rail operations in the UK – and perhaps with some irony, in a part of the world where the railway revolution really began.
Other media reports have said that up to 600 jobs will be created, and the centre will serve Alstom’s other bases at Liverpool, Manchester, Chester, Preston.
